A completely bias list of the best games of 2025 (that are in the GetBoard library, of course!)

2025 AKA the year of Lord of the Rings. Here are 10 games I enjoyed most that were released in 2025, in no particular order because please don't make me choose. I'd love to hear what you think about my favourites and what you would choose as yours.

  1. The Fellowship of the Ring Trick Taking Game. I learnt this past year that there are some people that are CRAZY about trick taking games. I'm not in that camp however Fellowship of the Ring was an appealing demonstration of the classic mechanic. It's the crew meets Lord of the Rings and really what is not to love about that!? 2. Toy Battle It was HUGE surprise how endearing and simple this game is. It can play in as quick as 15 minutes and yet is so deep in strategy while being simple enough to introduce to older kids and family. I know I said don't make me choose but it's secretly my game of the year.

The look of primal fear that you are gonna get thrashed by your 5-year old.

  3. Boss Fighter QR Some folks are anti-app in their board games and I totally get it. But if you can swallow the idea of one more app then Boss Fighter is a total hoot. It's random, it's swingy and I love it. The only thing it's missing is a solo mode. Mr GetBoard didn't enjoy the randomised element of the bosses and ditched our campaign leaving me to reset and pack up the box. Devastated.

  4. Fate of the Fellowship

Based on the Pandemic system and oozing in theme this one is a must-play for any LoTR fan. Every play feels epic and out of control. My only beef is that the board is a little cluttered and hectic but forgivable. Fate of the Fellowship | GetBoard

  5. MindBug battle fruit.

An epic 2 player duelling card game. Gives that sweet TCG feel without the T and $$$. I'm so bad at it.

  6. Moon Colony Bloodbath The pitch is so good for this game. You are colonising the Moon and building your resource engine. Until you are a few rounds in and you need to burn it all back down again to survive. Simultaneous play and disaster is my kind of game! This is my other favourite game of the year which i never get play as it's been so requested by subscribers. Oh, the burdens of running a boardgame rental business :P

  7. Deep Regrets

This is the game that made me laugh more than any other. The art is phenomenal! (I even purchased the art poster) I do, however, prefer this at lower play counts as the downtime is a bit long for a simple game. This game is ALL about embracing the theme together. Deep Regrets | GetBoard

It was too scary for my daughter's friends so lives in my ensuite 🥲

  8. Kavango

A pure tableau builder about collecting animals from a completely unique deck. There are no doubles of cards. I extra love this one as the publishers went all in on sustainability (no plastic) but didn't hold back on providing great storage options. Kavango | GetBoard

  9. Fate of the Fellowship. Turn out I already wrote about this one. But the fact I wrote it twice probably means it deserves the extra attention.

  10. Hobbit There and Back again Cosey AF! The components are killer and the variety is so good for a roll and write. Works great at all player counts and creates alot of table talk. The Hobbit There and Back Again | GetBoard
